== Mistakes ==
Overall I made the following mistakes during production:
*I didn't write a script
*I didn't film any usable B-roll
*I didn't make any kind of time for interjections
*There's no soft transitioning between scenes
*I didn't lock exposure on a bunch of clips
*I didn't white balance clips properly
*I didn't know what type of clips I needed in advance
*I didn't even know what type of video I was making

== Achievements ==
As a counter to mistakes, here's some things I did do well:

* I filmed enough stuff to get the video done
* The video doesn't require a technical background to understand
* Listening doesn't lose important details
*I finished it

== Audience feedback ==
After release and during production I generally got the following feedback:

* People liked the cat

That's about it. Which means the video didn't have any huge flaws.

== Workflow ==
By the end of production my workflow looked like this:

# Insert clips in to rough order and length
# Record voice-over in Audacity
# Match the audio up with the clips
# Tighten the timings a bit until things feel more natural
Most of the time and hesitancy of editing goes in to me not wanting to do the voice-over.

In the end I had to repeat this since the audio recording I did wasn't clean enough.

Editing was done with Kdenlive 19.12 from December 2021 through February 2022.
I really didn't enjoy constantly re-doing audio and re-writing subtitles and the script. It would have been better to do this as I edited to some extent, especially since I rarely went back and changed major things.

(That's assuming I finish this month.)

This page is about the Repairing an AMD Geode: Part 1 video.

See the parent article for details about what's happening in the video.

See AMD Geode/Video 1/Script for a textual description of the video.

Because of prolonged production time I released what I had so far as part 1 before starting with part 2.

Footage was shot from November 21 2021 through November 30 2021.

Editing was done from December 2021 through February 2022.

Mistakes[edit | edit source]

Overall I made the following mistakes during production:

  • I didn't write a script
  • I didn't film any usable B-roll
  • I didn't make any kind of time for interjections
  • There's no soft transitioning between scenes
  • I didn't lock exposure on a bunch of clips
  • I didn't white balance clips properly
  • I didn't know what type of clips I needed in advance
  • I didn't even know what type of video I was making

Achievements[edit | edit source]

As a counter to mistakes, here's some things I did do well:

  • I filmed enough stuff to get the video done
  • The video doesn't require a technical background to understand
  • Listening doesn't lose important details
  • I finished it

Audience feedback[edit | edit source]

After release and during production I generally got the following feedback:

  • People liked the cat

That's about it. Which means the video didn't have any huge flaws.

Workflow[edit | edit source]

By the end of production my workflow looked like this:

  1. Insert clips in to rough order and length
  2. Record voice-over in Audacity
  3. Match the audio up with the clips
  4. Tighten the timings a bit until things feel more natural

Most of the time and hesitancy of editing goes in to me not wanting to do the voice-over.

In the end I had to repeat this since the audio recording I did wasn't clean enough.

I really didn't enjoy constantly re-doing audio and re-writing subtitles and the script. It would have been better to do this as I edited to some extent, especially since I rarely went back and changed major things.

Tools[edit | edit source]

I used the following tools to make this video:

  • Pentax K-5 camera
  • Scarlett Solo with a VXLR adapter
  • Rode Lavalier GO microphone
  • Gophert NPS-1601 power supply
  • protech QM1571 multimeter
  • Siglent SDS1102CML+ oscilloscope
  • Pinecil soldering iron
  • Logitech C270 camera as a microscope
  • Kdenlive 19.12 (newer versions can't export WebM VP8)
  • Audacity for recording and cleaning audio
  • Aegisub for subtitles
  • Inkscape for title cards and other text overlay
